APL Logistics is a global leader in third-party logistics (3PL) and supply chain management, operating in over 6 countires with core services in contract logistics, freight management, and end-to-end supply chain solutions. The company supports a diverse set of industries and verticals, including automotive, retail, consumer goods, industrial, and high tech and managerse some of the most complex distribution networks in the world.

Role Objectives & Challenges

At the time of this engagement, APL logistics was focused on strenthening its Northern American operations to support growing demand from major manufacturing and retail clients. The company was expanding its distirbution footprint, integrating new digtial tools, and emphasizing greater consistency in client service across sites. Leadership recognized the need for a Group General Manager who could unify operations under one regional vision, balancing service performance, cost control, and team development.

Some of the challenges included: - a need for multi-industry exposure and someone who had managed both the consumer and industrial logistics environments; - a very specific leadership profile - high energy, client centeric, data-driven, and adept at managing change in a global matrix organization. - a short timeline: the company needed the hire finalized quickly to stabilize regional operations and maintain performance metrics tied to year end client renewals.

Our Approach to Solve the Search

SCM Talent Group leveraged its national network of logistics and supply chain executives to source candidates from: - Tier one 3PL providers managing regional or multi-country networks; -High-volume retailers and manufacturers with in-house distribution networks (consumer goods, automotive, industrial). -Candidates with both P&L reponsibility and a track record of client facing leadership in complex 3PL environments -direct experience leading multi-site distribution networks -proven success in implementing lean, six sigman, or other CI initiatives across multiple geograhic locations.

This was a strategic hire during a period of growth. We identified a strong distribution leader in the area who had prior multi-site management experience in a 3PL environment. They had a proven track record of retaining and developing clients in high SKU industries and a desire to continue to grow within the company.
