Warehouse Manager

Client Profile

Pegasus, a prominent third-party logistics (3PL) provider headquartered in Coppell, Texas.

Role Objectives & Challenges

Pegasus initially sought to hire Warehouse Supervisors for three locations: Coppell, El Paso, and Dallas-Fort Worth. However, during the search process, they revised their strategy to focus on filling the Coppell supervisor role while elevating the El Paso and Dallas-Fort Worth sites under the leadership of a single Warehouse Manager. Key responsibilities for the Warehouse Manager role included managing two shifts at a 50-person pick-pack-ship facility, ensuring inventory accuracy through the warehouse management system (WMS), and overseeing hiring and staffing needs. Given that the El Paso workforce primarily spoke Spanish, it was critical to identify a bilingual leader who could effectively manage and support the team. The facility serviced a diverse client base, including large retail and tech companies, and operated its own fleet for shipping, requiring strong leadership and operational oversight.

Our Approach to Solve the Search

We targeted candidates with local experience in warehouse leadership, prioritizing those with bilingual Spanish-English capabilities and the soft skills necessary for managing and retaining frontline employees. The ideal candidate would bring hands-on leadership expertise and the ability to navigate a demanding warehousing environment. While Pegasus utilized WMS technology, the operation required a leader comfortable in a relatively low-tech setting.

The Hire & Results

When Pegasus faced a hiring freeze due to the transportation recession, their search for three warehouse supervisors—one for each location—was put on hold. Recognizing the critical need for warehousing leadership, they made an exception to move forward with these roles despite the freeze. Collaborating closely, we restructured the hiring plan to optimize resources, focusing on hiring one supervisor for their largest location in Coppell and elevating the remaining two sites under the leadership of a warehouse manager. Thanks to proactive candidate engagement during the pause, we swiftly filled the supervisor role as soon as hiring resumed, setting Pegasus up for success with a lean yet effective leadership strategy.
